For David Kipp, holiday lighting started with something simple — entertaining his grandkids.

What began as a way to bring a little extra magic to family gatherings in 2008 has grown into one of Mesa’s most beloved synchronized holiday displays: Mesa Christmas.

Using xLights and Light-O-Rama, David has built an immersive show filled with addressable RGB lights, coro props, inflatables, DC motors, interactivity, snow and fog effects, and one of the crowd favorites — a light tunnel with a dance floor.

And when we say crowd favorite… we mean it.

Over the years, Mesa Christmas has hosted:

Those moments are a testament to what this hobby can become — not just blinking lights, but meaningful backdrops to life’s biggest milestones.

One of David’s most impactful upgrades? Adding the dance floor. Paired with the light tunnel, it transformed the display from something people watched into something they experienced. It quickly became a spectator favorite and elevated the interactive energy of the show.

David describes his display as synchronized light show using both xLights and Light-O-Rama, but what really defines it is the atmosphere. The combination of music, motion, and immersive elements invites visitors to step into the show — not just stand on the curb.

When he’s not sequencing or preparing for the next season, David stays just as active. A semi-retired pediatrician, he enjoys hiking, camping, 4-wheeling, boating, traveling, and operating ham radio. It’s safe to say creativity and adventure don’t stop when the lights go off.

From grandkids in the driveway to weddings under the glow of a light tunnel, David’s journey reminds us that holiday lighting isn’t just about pixels — it’s about creating spaces where memories are made.
